How To Use LawnCaddie

For Soil Tilth

Does your turf need watering or aeration? Check to see if there is good soil tilth in the root zone.

Step 1 - Remove the protective cap (grip).

Step 2 - With minimal effort, push into the ground.

  • If unable to push shaft to the secondary color level (6”) without great effort, the lawn needs to be watered and possibly aerated.

    • If you have’t been watering start there.

  • If the shaft is pushed to secondary color , this indicates good soil tilth in root zone (air and water permeable to 6”).

How to know when you need aeration in addition to watering?

  1. You’ve been watering

  2. Your turf hasn’t been aerated in 12 months

  3. Watering isn’t producing progress on the gauge.

For Turf Height

How high does your lawn need to be and for which type of turf do you have?

Step 1 - With the grip on, turn the club over and set it flat on the ground.

Step 2 - Use the orange lines to measure your turf height. From the bottom, moving up the grip the lines measure 2", 3", and 4".

  • If you have Fescue, you want the minimum height to be 3"

  • If you have Bermuda, you want the minimum height to be 2"

These minimum heights are an absolute minimum for healthy turf. And depending on the time of year, this minimum changes. For example, you want more height during the summer months.

Remember, the shorter your lawn the more work is required to maintain it’s health.
